Four Humors strives to create art that celebrates the humor, stupidity, and beauty of our world by letting the artist connect with the audience in a vulnerable and honest way.

Founded 2005
FOUR HUMORS has been producing theater since 2005, focusing largely on newly devised work, created by the company. Previous works include Fringe Festival hits such as Inspector Rex (2005), Deviled Eggs (2006), Bards (2007), Mortem Capiendum (2008), Sideways Stories from Wayside School (2009), You Only Live Forever Once (2011), Candide (2012), and Four Humors' Lolita: A Three Man Show (2013) as well as work throughout the season including Beckett's Widow (2007), Romeo and Juliet (2008), Love is Blind... and Furry (2009), Welcome to Dystopia (2010) The Age of Wordsworth (2011), Happy Cafe (2011), The Extraordinary Terms of Ordinary Life (2011), Skinner Box (2011), Bombus and Berylline (2012), Harold (2012), and The Murderer Did It (2013). From 2010-2012 Four Humors also produced two seasons of the monthly cabaret The Firsty Thursday Show in downtown Minneapolis featuring original sketches as well as local guest artists and musicians.

Jason Ballweber

Jason Ballweber is an actor and director with an emphasis on creating new work. Jason has worked as an actor and director with other theaters including Theatre de la Jeune Lune, Sod House Theater, Yellow Tree Theatre, Three Sticks Theatre, Jon Ferguson Theater, Live Action Set, Bedlam Theatre, Minnesota Orchestra, Manitoba Theater for Young People, Seattle Children's Theatre, Know Theatre of Cincinnati where he won an Acclaim Award for his direction of Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Open Eye Figure Theatre where he co-created and directed the Ivey Award winning Milly and Tillie, and Children's Theater Company in Minneapolis where he directed the North American Premiere of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat. Ryan Lear

Ryan Lear is a locally based artist whose stage work focuses on original and imaginative works. He is a company member of Four Humors Theater and has appeared in many of their past productions. In 2011 he co-wrote and directed The Extraordinary Terms of Ordinary Life and in 2012 composed and performed the live soundtrack for the award-winning Bombus and Berylline or the Bumblebee and the Hummingbird. Other credits include work with Jon Ferguson Theater, Live Action Set, the Minnesota Opera, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres and as one half of the critically acclaimed The Finkles' Theater Show!!!

Brant Miller
Founding Member
Brant Miller has been working with Four Humors Theater since the beginning. He was most recently seen in their productions of Mortem Capiendum, Sideways Stories from Wayside School and Harold. Brant has also worked with some of his favorite companies in the Twin Cities; highlights include Live Action Set's The Happy Show, Jon Ferguson's S. Gunter Klaus, and Three Sticks' The Traveling Musicians.

Nick Ryan
Founding Member
Nick Ryan is a playwright living in Brooklyn. He is a founding member and resident playwright of Four Humors Theater in Minneapolis. He has written seven shows with the company including Candide, Mortem Capiendum, and Harold. Endurance, a show he wrote in collaboration with Split Knuckle, premiered at the 2010 Connecticut Repertory Theater Nutmeg Summer Series, and has since toured the world performing for audiences in New York, London, Paris, Athens and Bangkok. His collaboration with Split Knuckle Theater, The Curious Case of Phineas Gage, will premiere at The Tank in New York City in June of 2013. Nick's work has been presented at Dixon Place, Ars Nova, and One Arm Red in New York City, the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, and Shakespeare and Company in Lenox, Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of Minnesota-- Twin Cities with a BA in Theater Arts, where he was the two time recipient of Arthur Ballet Award for Playwriting.

Matt Spring

Matt Spring has had the pleasure of appearing in Four Humors' productions of Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Mortem Capiendum, Romeo and Juliet, Bards, Deviled Eggs, The Age of Wordsworth, You Only Live Forever Once, Candide, Harold, Skinner Box, The Murderer Did It! (which he also wrote), Star City, Doll Collection, and Four Humors' Lolita: A Three Man Show. He played Dr. Helio in the Children's Theater immersive production of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. He has worked with Live Action Set, first as Assistant Director for The Happy Show, and as a Co-Writer of the Ivey Award winning The Seven Shot Symphony. Matt graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities with a BA in Theater Arts. Matt Spring has had the pleasure of appearing in Four Humors' productions of Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Mortem Capiendum, Romeo and Juliet, Bards, Deviled Eggs, The Age of Wordsworth, You Only Live Forever Once, Candide and Harold. He has worked with Live Action Set, first as Assistant Director for The Happy Show, and as a Co-Writer of the Ivey Award winning The Seven Shot Symphony. He has also appeared in Speech! with Ferrari McSpeedy Theatrical Productions. Matt graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities with a BA in Theater Arts.
